Newest version of Honda's ASIMO coming to TV on April 15
Apr 07, 2014 - 2:51 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Technology, Honda, Celebrities, TV/Movies

Honda's ASIMO robot is moving into its teenage years, having originally been introduced in 2000, and like all teens, it's still learning. The bot has received regular incremental upgrades over that time, and the latest version will premiere on LIVE with Kelly and Michael on Tuesday, April 15.

The newest enhancements provide ASIMO with improved hand dexterity, the ability to use sign language, run faster, climb stars more smoothly, balance on one foot, jump and more. Honda says other new features will be demonstrated with hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan on the show.

The ongoing development of ASIMO, which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is... [Read More]

Honda to dub Fit-based as HR-V for North America
Apr 06, 2014 - 5:10 PM - by Honda Forum

You may remember it as the Urban SUV (pictured above) from when it debuted in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show last year, or know it as the Vezel as the production version was unveiled for the Japanese Domestic Market at the 2014 Tokyo Motor Show. But when Honda starts exporting its new Fit-based crossover - or better yet, building it in Mexico for North American consumption - it will be called the HR-V.

This news comes courtesy of Honda enthusiast forum Temple of VTEC. When contacted by Autoblog, Honda... [Read More]

Watch Honda lay waste to world's fastest lawnmower record
Apr 02, 2014 - 6:09 PM - by Honda Forum

Honda has been working on its high-performance Mean Mower for a while now. In a recent attempt to take the top speed title, it didn't make its 130-miles-per-hour top speed target, but it still managed to set a new Guinness World Record has the world's fastest lawnmower at 116.57 mph. While the video certifying the run was uploaded to YouTube on April 1, this is no prank. The Guinness run was made on March 8 at the Idiafa Proving Ground in Tarragona, Spain.

To claim the record, the lawnmower had to run through a 100-meter speed trap, and it had to make two passes in opposite directions within an hour... [Read More]

Honda, Toyota to abandon hydrogen fuel cell plans
Apr 01, 2014 - 10:12 PM - by TorqueNews

In a shocking and abrupt reversal of course, the two Japanese auto giants that had previously thrown their lot in with a hydrogen future have announced a joint venture to pursue battery electric vehicle technology that is “far more likely to succeed.”

Original source: Reprinted from http://www.torquenews.com/2250/honda...uel-cell-plans

Honda and Toyota are two of the largest and most influential automakers in the world. Both Japanese companies are known for quality, reliable products and for taking a steady long-term approach. Until very recently, that approach was to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology while virtually ignoring pure electric vehicles.

Now, however, shocking revelations from several high-ranking officials at both companies indicate the Japanese giants plan to join forces and abandon their misguided fuel cell projects. A Honda official who wished to remain anonymous stated, “Look, as always we’re a decade or two away from truly viable fuel cell vehicles, and that’s the best-case scenario. We need to take action against climate change now, and this fuel cell thing has mainly just been a marketing charade. Battery electrics are here today and if we don’t get into the game... [Read More]

2015 Fit Kit is the perfect DIY car from Honda
Apr 01, 2014 - 12:09 AM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Budget, Videos, Hatchback, Honda, Humor

Ah... let the April Fools' Day automotive jokes begin. Honda is kicking things off, following up on last year's Honda Hair joke with a prank video featuring the 2015 Honda Fit.

It's called the Fit Kit, and as you might guess, it's a way to build your own version of the redesigned hatchback. There are 180,000 mechanical parts in the kit - some delivered by drone - but that doesn't seem at all daunting to the pair of obnoxious, self-described tinkerers that star in the Fit Kit ad.

Honestly, the video is pretty entertaining, with some biting satire of the DIY movement and its attendant... [Read More]

Honda recalls nearly 10,000 new Civic models over pinched tires
Mar 31, 2014 - 9:14 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Convertible, Coupe, Budget, Sedan, Recalls, Safety, Honda

Honda is recalling some 9,816 Civic LX coupes and sedans from the 2014 model year due to a potential tire problem.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice, the safety problem stems from an installation problem at a supplier, which may have caused the tire bead to become pinched between the steel wheel and the mounting equipment. As a result, tire beads may have been damaged, which could result in a loss of pressure, a condition that... [Read More]

Watch a full lap of the Isle of Man TT with Michael Dunlop on board
Mar 28, 2014 - 12:29 AM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Motorsports, Honda, Motorcycle, UK, Racing

The Isle of Man TT is one of the world's last great races held public roads that hasn't been sanitized in any way. Motorcycles barrel through quaint villages at max speed in a way that is hardly believable in today's much safer world of racing. And this isn't just through a few miles downtown - a single lap takes the fastest classes over 17 minutes.

This video might be one of the greatest showcases off what the Isle of Man TT is about ever made. It shows rider Michael Dunlop on a Honda CBR600RR on lap three of the second race of the Supersport class in 2013. As it starts, Dunlop is in second place leaving from... [Read More]

Honda and Toyota battle for #1 in North America compact car sector

Honda and Toyota battle for #1 in North America compact car sector
So, who is truly # 1 in automotive retail sales and why should you care? While Honda and Toyota continue to battle for position in an ever changing market; Torque News-Honda takes a closer look at the sales numbers.

Reprinted from http://www.torquenews.com/1574/honda...act-car-sector

We were reminded by Torque News colleague John Goreham that sales numbers presented by automakers through information services such as R.L. Polk are often less than quantified.

With sales numbers shifting monthly,do you care who the # 1 car brand in North America is?

Example: When Toyota tells us that the Prius Hybrid is the best selling hybrid on the planet, all 5 variants of the Prius including the “C” are included in the statistic. So, compared against the sales of a single variant hybrid such as the now defunct 2014 Insight, the implied popularity of the Prius by-the numbers has little meaning.

The same holds true for the Honda Civic. Taking the #1 Pole position for all cars sold in California for 2013, we have no way of discerning what Civic model was most popular with... [Read More]

Honda NM4 concept motorcycles channel Akira
Mar 21, 2014 - 5:41 PM - by Honda Forum
Filed under: Concept Cars, Honda, Motorcycle

Honda has rolled out a pair of new motorcycle concepts at the Osaka Motorcycle Show in its home market of Japan, and they're our first glimpse at the company's "neo-futuristic" NM4. Shown in both stealthy black and an eye-catching white, the NM4s are sharp creations that feature interesting riding positions.

Honda calls the concepts' seating "the cockpit position," claiming that it unifies bike with rider. We don't know about that, but we will admit that compared to most sportbike seats - which are more or less just bits of padding to squeeze between your legs - these bikes' saddles look more or less like conventional seats. Honda says that their backrests are adjustable, which should provide a comfortable riding experience. Still, with these bikes' sporting looks, we can't imagine their low seats are... [Read More]
