Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano, or Subaru Outback?

My mom wants a new car. We have enough to afford any of the listed cars but want to stay below 40k with a midsized SUV. I was hoping I could get an in depth comparison of what you think is the best car. My family is already leaning towards the Subaru Outback, but here's a few things about my family:
Average height mom and dad, tall (over 6 foot) 16-year-old son, and short teenage daughter. Like I said above, we just want an average sized under 40K SUV/Crossover and I want to hear which car you think is best OR if you think there is some better car that you get excited about. My mom wants to be pleased with her selection which means (as she would put it) she wants to "look forward" to getting this car. So your advice/recommendations/analysis/time to even consider this question is much appreciated!

We just bought a Pilot last night. We bought it because of the size. I'm six feet tall, my 15-year-old son is 6'1, and my wife and daughter are not so big. I can't speak to the Murano but the Pilot is bigger than the Outback. I think you'd find that the Pilot would fit the bill pretty well. We got ours (and EX-L) for significantly less than 40K.
