Default Honda Pilot will not shift from D to 2

Hi - I am new to the forum. I have a white 2006 Honda Pilot, 2WD, 158,000 miles. It's been very reliable to date. We encountered some snow and ice last month. I triedd to shift from Drive to 2nd gear to help slow down going downhill. The shifter would not shift into 2nd gear. No matter if I'm stationary or moving slowly, it will not shift. I don't normally use 2nd, so I don't know when it stopped shifting. It shifts through P,R,N,D with no issues and it drives very smoothly at all speeds in D. Any suggestions on what the issue might be ? I'm thinking of checking the codes to see if anything electrical is not working. Any help is appreciated, thx.
