Default Do you need chains with a "Real Time AWD" Honda Element?

I'm looking at buying a Honda Element. I heard they have Real Time AWD, meaning it only kicks in when there is slipping. If I go to the snow and it says you have to have 4wd or chains, is Real Time AWD acceptable to go?

With upgraded tires, it handles normal snow conditions quite well. Chains will always depend on other conditions, mountains, etc.
